Day-old croissants actually work better than fresh for these ham and cheese croissants. They crisp up nicely in the air fryer before the cheese melts. Follow this recipe to see how.

  • 4 croissants (store-bought, bakery, or day-old all work)
  • 4 slices deli ham
  • 4 slices Swiss or gruyere cheese
  • Dijon mustard (optional but highly recommended)

  1. 01Slice each croissant in half horizontally, like a sandwich bun.
  2. 02Spread Dijon on the bottom half if using.
  3. 03Layer one slice of ham and one slice of cheese on each bottom half.
  4. 04Replace the top half.
  5. 05Ready for the air fryer. The circulating heat melts the cheese and crisps the croissant without flattening it.
Day-old croissants actually work better than fresh for this. Fresh croissants are soft and can go limp in the air fryer before the cheese melts. Day-old ones are slightly stale, which means they crisp up beautifully and hold their shape around the melted filling.
