Convert Oven Recipes

Air fryers are just small, powerful convection ovens. The circulating hot air cooks food faster and more efficiently than a standard oven. That means every oven recipe you already know can be adapted with a simple formula.

Reduce the temperature by 25°F and cut the cooking time by about 20%. So a recipe that calls for 400°F for 20 minutes becomes 375°F for 16 minutes. Check a few minutes early the first time — every air fryer is a little different. After one or two tries, you'll have it dialed in.

Steps
01

Take the oven temperature and subtract 25°F.

02

Take the oven time and multiply by 0.8 (reduce by 20%).

03

Preheat the air fryer if the recipe calls for a preheated oven.

04

Check food 2-3 minutes before the estimated time.

05

Note your results for next time — adjust as needed for your model.

Pro tips

Pro Tip

This formula works for 90% of recipes. The exceptions are baked goods — those need more testing.

Pro Tip

Air fryers cook smaller quantities at a time, so batch cooking may take longer overall.

Pro Tip

If the recipe calls for covering with foil in the oven, you can skip that in the air fryer.

Pro Tip

Use an instant-read thermometer to verify doneness, especially the first time.
