These spiral-cut hot dogs are an upgrade on the original. The spiral cut creates more surface area for charring and prevents uneven splitting. The page includes the full recipe, instructions for creating the spiral, and air frying tips.

Steps
01Push a wooden skewer lengthwise through the center of each hot dog, end to end.
02Hold a knife at a steep angle and cut a spiral into the hot dog, rotating it as you go. The skewer keeps it from falling apart. You should end up with a continuous spiral cut from end to end.
03Remove the skewer. The hot dog stretches slightly like an accordion when you pull the ends.
04Ready for the air fryer. The spiral cuts open up during cooking, creating massively increased surface area.
The spiral does three things: it looks impressive, it prevents the hot dog from splitting unevenly, and it creates ridges and valleys that char and crisp individually. Every spiral ridge gets its own crust. More surface area means more browning, more snap, and more places for toppings to nestle into.
