Garlic-rubbed baguette slices get perfectly crisp in the air fryer. The key is to add the garlic *after* cooking to avoid bitterness. You'll find the simple steps and timing on this page.
Ingredients
1 French baguette
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 clove garlic, peeled and halved
For the topping (after cooking):
3 roma tomatoes, diced small
4 to 5 fresh basil leaves, torn
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
pinch flaky salt

Steps
01Slice the baguette on a bias (diagonal) into 1/2-inch thick pieces. Diagonal cuts give you more surface area for toppings.
02Brush both sides of each slice lightly with olive oil.
03Ready for the air fryer.
04While the toasts cook, mix the diced tomatoes, torn basil, olive oil, balsamic, and salt in a bowl.
05As soon as the toasts come out, rub each one with the cut side of the garlic clove. The rough, hot surface acts like a grater and the garlic melts right in.
06Spoon the tomato mixture on top. Serve immediately.
Rub the garlic on the hot toast, not the cold bread before cooking. Raw garlic on bread before air frying burns and turns bitter. Garlic rubbed on hot toast gives you that sharp, aromatic hit without any bitterness.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 5-7 days. Re-crisp at 350°F (175°C) for 1-2 minutes if needed. Basically crackers at this point.
